1. Adana Kebab
The first item on our list for foods that start with A is the Adana Kebab. Adana Kebab is a type of Kebab, special to the Adana region of Turkey. It is mostly known for its spiciness and appetizers it is being served with. A normal portion of Adana Kebab is being served with Lavaş (like a soft version of Tortilla, pronounced as “Lavash”), rice, hot salsa sauce with walnuts, and salad. So while taking it out of the stick, you just put the kebab in the Lavaş along with some hot sauce, some salad, and start eating it in small portions until you feel full.
2. Anchovies
Anchovies are small fishes that live in salty waters like seas. Some also live in freshwater in South America. You probably have already seen Anchovies at supermarkets in the form of a paste in a tube, just like toothpaste. It is mostly salty, therefore is a good combination of salads and sandwiches.
3. Asian Noodles
Asian Noodles are also one of the foods that start with A and they are every student’s favorite because they are really easy to cook and the fast-food industry is really grown with these noodles from the Asian region. They are mostly combined with soi, chicken, and vegetables like broccoli, carrots, cabbages. In the supermarkets, you can find on-the-go noodles, to which you only need to add hot water and let simmer for 3-4 minutes. After that, it is ready to be consumed, which is a perfect way to start the day because it will give you a warm stomach.
4. Aubergine
Aubergines or eggplants have a variety of ways to be cooked. You can prepare so many nice dishes when you bake them in the oven, you can also grill and afterward peel them, you can use it in normal pan dishes. They have a high amount of nicotine when compared with other plants (not tobacco of course) and sometimes cause itchiness in your mouth.
5. Americano
Here we have a known beverage that is made with coffee. Americano has a lower caffeine content when compared with Cappucino, however, it is also easy to drink. Having an Americano and a chocolate croissant in the morning is a very classic breakfast. Not that healthy probably but feels really good and gives you the energy you need in the morning. 6. Alinazik
Alinazik is a dish that originated in the Antep region of Turkey. Antep is in a location, whose cuisine is mixed with many different cultures over the years. We call it “Cuisine of civilizations”. Alinazik is made of eggplants and meat. Eggplants are first roasted over the furnace or grill, then peeled and crushed. You cook the meat in another pan with tomato sauce and hot spices. Roasted eggplants create the base of the plate, then you put the meat over it and add some parsley over it. Bon appetit!

Apple Cider is an unsweetened and unfiltered beverage made from apples. In the United States, people call it “Cider” but that sometimes leads to confusion because Cider is normally an alcoholic beverage. The alcoholic beverage “Cider” is called “Hard Cider” in the U.S. It is a good way to freshen up a little bit under the sun at noon. 8. Asafoetida
Asafoetida is the dried latex that is produced from the taproot of the plant “Ferula”. It is called “Badian” in Afghanistan and Iran, meaning “That of gas or wind”. The reason behind that is, that it is mainly used to relieve stomach gas. Be sure to have that in your kitchen in case of stomach problems.
9. Anise
Anise is a flowering plant native to the Mediterranean region and Southwest Asia. It is being used in many cultures. For example, “Rakı” or “Rakia” in Bulgaria is made with distilled alcohol and Anise oil to give the flavor. Another example would be the “Star Anise”, which can be mixed with coffee to have that nice aroma.
10. Avocado
Everyone knows what an Avocado is right? It is one of the foods that start with A. That is actually not that true, because there are so many countries in the world, that does not use Avocado in their cuisines. However, especially for people that is interested in fitness and sports, Avocado is a very healthy source of fat, which can be used to make Guacamole and some salads. It is also important to know how to pick an avocado. The use of avocado depends on how ripe it is, so be careful while choosing an Avocado at your farmer’s market.
11. Artichoke
Artichoke is a variety of species “Thistle”. It is being used in many cuisines and cultures and combined with orange, you will definitely love it. The antioxidant capacity for Artichoke is one of the highest reported between vegetables. Not many kids love it though.
12. Ajowan Seed
Ajowan or Ajwain and also known as bishop’s weed looks like a flower at the first glance. However, it’s leaves and seed-shaped fruits can both be consumed by humans. They have a bitter taste that resembles Anise and Oregano. The fruits are rarely consumed raw, they are mostly dry-roasted and or fried with butter, leading to a more subtle and complex aroma.
13. Achacha
The next item on our list of foods that start with A is the Achacha. Achacha or Garcinia Humilisis a small egg-shaped fruit. It grows in the southern region of the Amazon Basin in the center of Bolivia. Storing it at about 15-20 degrees celsius in a high-humidity environment is recommended, just do not put it in a refrigerator. Orange rinds of this fruit could be put in a blender and then solid parts in the shake are removed. After that, you will have a refreshing drink in your hand. Very good for the summer!
14. Allspice
Allspice is also known as Jamaica Pepper. Although being native to Mexico and Central America, it is now being grown in almost all parts of the world. Allspice is one of the key ingredients in Caribbean cuisine. You can use Allspice for meat seasoning, but it is also consumed along with tomato sauce in Middle-Eastern cuisine.
15. Almond
Almonds are considered as a “superfood”, which means when consumed, it will supply the human body with so many nutrients while not containing that much calories. Almonds can be used as decoratives on a cake or as a mid-day snack. There is also almond milk which acts as a substitute if you are a lactose-intolerant coffee lover.
16. Albacore Tuna
Albacore is one of the foods that start with A and it is actually a tuna itself. Albacore is also known as Longfin Tuna. It is found in exotic waters and can be consumed with salads, can be cooked as a steak, can be eaten in a wrap and you can also find it in canned condition at supermarkets.
17. Adzuki Beans
Adzuki beans are mainly consumed in Japan and have a sweet flavor. Therefore it is often used while making desserts. They look like coffee beans and normal beans. It is good for Diabetes, high blood cholesterol, and detoxifying.
18. Arugula
Arugula is one of my favorite vegetables. Because it has this bitter and fresh taste which is amazing. Mostly combined with lemon and together they are a good combination with seafood. It can create balance when consumed with spicy food. Arugulas are also one of the foods that start with L.
19. Alfredo Sauce
If you have been to a simple cafeteria in your life, then you must have seen this one. The most famous recipe is fettuccine alfredo. Alfredo sauce contains parmesan cheese, garlic, heavy cream, and fresh parsley. It is also combined with chicken, which also tastes really good.
20. Asparagus
Asparagus is a spring vegetable famous across Europe and the Americas. It has diuretic properties and was used as an aphrodisiac. This vegetable is so famous in Germany, that people are really missing Asparagus when it’s not around. There are even festivals made for this vegetable. People in Germany say that after they eat Asparagus in its season, it reminds them of their childhood memories.
21. Apple Pie
The smell of fresh-cooked Apple Pie in the morning? Delicious! I remember when I was a kid and woke up to the smell of fresh-cooked Apple Pie, it brings out so many memories. Perfect breakfast for me when I was a child was to eat Apple Pie with a glass (sometimes two glasses) of milk. Apple Pie is a pie made with apples and cinnamon mostly.
22. Alfalfa
Normally, Alfalfas are fed to the animals but their sprouts? That is another story. When you make their seeds sprout, that converts the complex nutrients inside the seeds to a more edible state. They are also a good source of fiber, that gets the extra fat out of your system and improves your metabolism by activating our intestines.
23. Agave Syrup
Most people try to avoid sugar by using chemical substitutes for example while drinking tea. While some prefer to use honey, other people prefer syrups. The agave plant is native to Latin America and the southern part of the United States. In the past, it was believed to have medicinal properties. Now it is being used to produce tequila and Agave Syrup.
24. Apricots
Apricot is one of my favorite fruits. It contains a lot of fiber and has a really sweet and unique aroma. Apricot pie is really famous in some cuisines in small portions because in big portions it can get extra sweet. It is also possible to consume dry apricots. There are two ways to make dried apricots, either you let them dry under the sunlight, which creates a brown dried apricot, or they use sulfur to make the process faster, meanwhile keeping the original color of an apricot.
25. Angel Hair
It is actually a shape of pasta that looks like spaghetti, but this one is thinner. It is especially good for light sauces like tomato sauce or extra virgin olive oil.
26. American Cheese
American cheese is a type of cheese that is produced after mixing cheddar, Colby, or similar cheeses. It is mostly combined with burgers, which is the most consumed fast-food within United States boundaries. Not only it is tasty, but it also looks good between the buns of a cheeseburger.
27. Appleade

28. Acorn Squash
Acorn squash is a very versatile vegetable. The best way to cook this vegetable is to cut it in half and then bake it for 40-45 minutes so that the textures turn into brown. After combining it with butter and garlic, you will have a not only healthy but also delicious snack which will be a perfect lunch!
29. Andouille
Andouille is a type of sausage that was originated in France. It is made from pork meat and has got a smokey flavor. Its ingredients are tripe, onions, wine, and seasoning.
30. Apfelstrudel
We sincerely hope that you have seen the movie “Inglorious Bastards”. In that movie, there is a scene where Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) eats a German dessert with cream on it. That was strudel. Apfelstrudel is one of the most famous German desserts that have a crunchy texture and creamy apple flavor.
